This wonderful antique print combines two different etchings, “The Schoolmaster at Home”, and “The Tea Party”, both created by the French photographer and inventor, Antoine Jean Francois Claudet (1797-1867.)
He took photos of the famous taxidermy exhibit of these whimsical groupings of animals, that were displayed at The Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace in London in 1851. He used his photographic plates to create engravings for “The Comical Creatures from Wurttemberg,” a book featuring taxidermy creations by Hermann Ploucquet, with stories by others which was also published in 1851.
The first image s a depiction of “Longtail”, the weasel, teaching a small group of rabbits arithmetic.
The second image is of four kittens at tea.
This whimsical print is a rare and wonderful find for any animal lover.
Measuring 18″ tall x 14 3/4″ wide, it is double-matted in black and white, and framed under glass with an elegant 1″ thick black wood frame.
The entire piece is in excellent, ready-to-hang condition.
