Mortens Studio Ring-Tailed Fox Figurine c.1930’s

This fabulous ring-tailed fox figurine by Mortens Studio, is a rare find.

Perched on a sloping base to fully take advantage of this animal’s musculature and striking ringed tailed, it measures 3″ tall x 6 1/2″ long x 2″ wide.

The designer of this figurine, Oscar Mortens, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a giftware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models.
Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition.

This ring-tailed fox is in excellent, flawless condition.

We know that in the few decades that Mortens Studio was in operation, they produced mainly “companion animals” such as dogs and horses.
